I stayed awake to watch the first F-1 race of the 2025 season which ended not too long ago.
Anyway, almost half of the field was wiped out by the slippery track towards the end with the following results: Norris, Max, Russell.
During the formation lap, one rookie crashed out. When the race got underway, another rookie crashed out within the first few corners,, then Carlos Sainz. There were many crashes during the race which I lost count. At one stage, Hamilton was first, followed by LeLerc, both on hard, but pitted for intermediate tires with about 6 laps to go...............
It was a race of tire strategies + a lot of luck, & of course suspense!.
Regardless, McLaren had the fastest cars (McLarens were 1 - 2 with a few laps to go, then Piastri went off the track but must wait for all other cars to pass, before rejoining which pushed him all the way to the back!), Max, Russell, LeClerc & Hamilton were all about the same speed, but cannot show their real strength due to a wet track which made it impossible to overtake/race each other.
Oh yes, it was a street course in Melbourne which has many white paint road markings which made the track treacherous once the tires ran over the white marking.
Let's wait for the next stop in China, to have a better idea of what to expect. |
