York Regional Police investigators have charged six people and located seven victims following a year-long investigation into a company involved in human trafficking in the GTA.
Investigators launched Project Eonni in November 2020 to investigate an organized group of suspects believed to be operating a company called Moon Waiting VIP involved in human trafficking.
York police led a multi-force execution of 20 search warrants Nov. 3 at locations across the GTA suspected of being sex trade operations.
Four of the six charged are residents of Richmond Hill and Markham.
Police seized more than $4 million from accounts operated by the primary accused, approximately $3 million in illegal cannabis and 34 firearms with ammunition.
Seven victims were located and have been connected with victim support services.
Investigators have released a photo of one accused man believed to be involved with other vulnerable women. They are asking for those victims to come forward.
"Any victims of human trafficking who are hesitant to come forward due to immigration status concerns should be aware that they have the right to support and protection under the laws in Canada," YRP Const. Laura Nicolle said.
Di Luan, 38, of Markham, is charged with trafficking in persons, material benefit from trafficking in persons, advertising sexual favours, careless storage of a firearm, laundering proceeds of a crime, fraud over $5,000, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of procuring.
He is also known to use aliases that include Andy Luan, Vincent Luan, Chia Hao Cheng and Jia Hoa Zheng. |
