Whoever still thinks BMW have better performance probably have not looked at MB's performance in the racing world in the past 15-20 years.
If you were to look at 15-20 years ago, the comment for on "Drive BMW and sit in a MB" holds because BMW dominated the small racing saloon arena with their M3 -- namely the E30 - E36. Almost every generation offers an inline 6, which allowed engineers to create a car that's highly weight-balanced (a 50/50 weight distribution) which allowed the car to be handled very well per the power output.
This was not something MB can achieve until the 2000s -- not until the acquisition of AMG and the development of AMG passenger cars. And around that time they have a renewed focus on racing, performance and quality -- which leads to their re-entry of F1 in 2010. Since then, MB had been putting their F1 technology into their passenger cars, especially their AMG models.
My opinion though, if you are looking for a daily driver, look for something reliable, affordable (gas), comfortable.
Performance is a relative thing as everyone driving style is different. |
