光凭一个号码，几个短信，警察根本告不了你，他们不会浪费这个人力物力去做无用功
除非！你被警察放蛇捉到的！证明你有给了钱！

一般小市民大可以放心叫鸡！

I think the risk is real but not like what is being imagined.  Having your phone number show up in a record is like going through a radar camera, it's not particularly useful to know who was driving.  If you are physically caught red handed and then the confiscated record(s) can be used to show a repeat pattern (not a one of) leaving less chance of a more lenient sentence.  This is what happened recently with the local LE Officer busted for shaking down SP's.

My advice to you is to call, don't text whenever possible.  If you text avoid positive ID.

It would be interesting to know exactly what anonymity WeChat offers?  I don't have Weixin (poor Mandarin) but use WeChat whenever possible.
