US has too much IP rights , IMO.
Like you said, first pill is 2 Bn, second costs 2 cents.
But they try to squeeze the rich country for R&D, and due to power of other poorer (including Canada) countries in negotiating, they just let them to have it at lower prices.
If US drug prices will be lowered , especially after the latest round of health care act not being changed, they will target drug prices to lower the health care costs.
The other issue is the right to sue in US. Doctors are paying a lot of insurance to protect themselves from lawsuits.
It will be nice if FDA will lower the cost of getting the drug into the market and allow some less measures to test the drug till no one will die from it. So what if someone could die, since no one is of the same composition. We need to take calculated risk and less tests to implement a drug. |
